Pregame Listening: That Gopher Hockey Puckast Episode 6
Greetings once again from snowy Minneapolis, where fall, we hardly knew you.
Minnesota returns to Big Ten play this weekend by hosting Michigan State. Like their opponent, MSU is coming off of a weekend sweep and are more than halfway to matching the 2016-17 win total. Like Clarkson last weekend, watch out for Michigan State's top line - for more on MSU, check out Jeremy Dewar's thoughts.
As far the Gophers go, I got to ask freshmen Casey Mittelstadt and Scott Reedy - 2/3 of the RPM line - about their adjustment to the college game.
Mittelstadt: "It's been good for the most part. Obviously for me and for my own expectations, it's been somewhat of a slow part, but we're getting going. As we get better as a team, I'll get better and that's the most important thing. As our forwards get going and we start playing together with five guys on the ice, my individual play will go up as well."
Reedy: "The biggest thing for me is that we got to play a couple games of college last year (with the US National Development Program) so that helped me a lot. Playing a USHL schedule as a 17 year-old helped me be used to being undersized. I've put some weight there to help with the transition to college hockey."
Lastly, when their line is clicking what does Reedy think is going well?
"We have got possession below the goal line, below the hash marks especially," he said. "We're good on the rush, but when we're really clicking things are working well below the hash marks and below the net."
Line Combinations
The Gophers make one adjustment on the lines, switching Brent Gates Jr. and Leon Bristedt. Jack Glover and Ryan Norman return to the Minnesota lineup while freshmen Nate Knoepke and Sam Rossini return to the bench.
Eric Schierhorn starts for Minnesota.
John Lethemon gets another start for the Spartans after taking over the net from Ed Minney.
